Travel Photography
I developed a travel bug over 12 years ago when I decided I was backpacking through Australia by myself at 19 years old. My mom thought I was nuts, but I was determined to see the world and in exchange I found an inner strength and a love of travel which will never die. On that trip I spent 6 months backpacking from hostel to hostel from Sydney to the Northern tip, through the desert to Ayers rock, down to Adelaide and back to Sydney. I made extra money picking fruit, cleaning hostels, working on a family farm, and cocktail serving.
I left Sydney with under $20 and decided to stop in Fiji for one last adventure. I used my cash for the first nights hostel and food, and found myself down at the beach wondering what I would do. That was when I met an older local Fijian man who climbed coconut trees for a living. He struck up a conversation and offered for me to stay with his family. I had no better option so I hitchhiked to his remote village to find a shack and met his family. He supported his brothers widow and her kids. We spent the week exploring the island by foot or hitchiking with locals to remote villages where I attended a traditional Indian wedding, the kids dressed me in their mothers clothes so I fit in. We visited his distant relatives all over and they fed us well. I even rode bony horses with ropes for a bridle into the jungle with two young boys. What an adventure I will never forget.
Since Australia I have traveled to New Zealand, Tahiti, Guatemala, Belize, China, Mongolia, and Russia among other places. I decided to post some of my favorite travel photos to share my experiences.
